Chapter 3 Finding and Building Your Ministry Network
The PCN Approach The Pastors Connection Network exists precisely to address this need. Our conviction is that no pastor should carry the weight of ministry alone — and that the antidote to pastoral isolation is not a better resource library but a genuine community of connected, mutually invested peers. PCN provides several pathways to building your ministry network. The cohort experience connects you with a small group of pastors in a structured, facilitated format designed to produce the kind of real relationship that peer groups need to get started. The regional gatherings create face-to-face connection across geographic boundaries that remote communication cannot fully replace. The community platform provides ongoing connection between in-person events — a place to share, ask questions, seek counsel, and stay present in each other's lives between cohort meetings or regional gatherings. Building Network Outside of PCN Your ministry network should extend beyond any single organization, including PCN. The broadest possible network of pastoral relationships — across denominations, ministry contexts, church sizes, and theological traditions — provides the richest possible set of perspectives and resources. Denominational networks, seminary alumni communities, ministry conferences, and local ministerial associations all provide opportunity for peer connection. The key is not finding the perfect organizational structure — it is being consistent in showing up, being genuine in those contexts, and being willing to invest beyond the professional surface. The network you build over twenty years of consistent investment will be one of the most valuable assets of your ministry — not in terms of influence or resources, but in terms of the relationships that have shaped you and will sustain you. Your network is not primarily about what you can get from other pastors. It is about what you can become together. Approach it with that orientation and it will become something extraordinary.
